SimpliSafe home security system overview

SimpliSafe products include burglary sensors, hazard sensors, and an indoor, outdoor, and doorbell camera.

Our favorite SimpliSafe features include:

  • Wireless system solutions with battery backup in case of a power outage or natural disaster
  • 24/7 professional monitoring centers ready to alert medical and law enforcement personnel
  • Fully customizable packages so you only pay for the equipment, smart features, and monitoring solutions you need

But what really sets SimpliSafe apart is that they do not require a contract to purchase equipment or professional monitoring.

Best Suited for a Customizable, DIY-Friendly Home Security Solution

SimpliSafe home security systems are best suited for families and individuals who want a simple, easy-to-use, DIY-friendly home security solution. SimpliSafe offers five security packages and a “Build Your Own” option, so customers can customize the system to meet their needs. SimpliSafe does not require customers to enter into a contract to purchase equipment or professional monitoring. Because of this, we recommend SimpliSafe if you want a security system you can install yourself that doesn’t require any long-term commitments.

SimpliSafe is a DIY home security solution. All systems are designed for customers to install themselves easily. However, SimpliSafe does offer professional installation for a fee if you need it.

Additionally, SimpliSafe’s “Build Your Own” system is fully customizable, starting with one base station and one keypad. From there, you get to choose the products and smart features you need. SimpliSafe also offers a few monitoring solutions, including a professional-monitoring plan, as well as a self-monitoring plan with camera recordings and can be added to any system you choose.

Our favorite SimpliSafe feature is their wireless system solutions with battery backup in case of a power outage or natural disaster. Each system includes a built-in cellular connection that’s reinforced with WiFi. Additionally, the base station is built with smash-safe technology and a 24-hour battery so that it continues to work, even if impacted by an intruder. Lastly, SimpliSafe’s 24/7 professional monitoring centers are ready to alert medical and law enforcement personnel any time, day or night.

Not recommended for those looking for sophisticated equipment options

SimpliSafe offers many benefits to customers looking for a straightforward, customizable, DIY home security system. However, when it comes to additional smart features and home automation options, SimpliSafe offers less than other home security companies. Because of the limited integration abilities with home automation equipment, we do not recommend SimpliSafe security if you want a super “smart” security system that integrates with other smart home technology.

Additionally, SimpliSafe offers a limited security camera selection, with only three cameras to choose from–an indoor camera, an outdoor camera, and a video doorbell camera. For those looking for more product options, other security companies may provide what you need. Some home security companies sell hundreds of products with various features, making for a highly personalized system.

Lastly, SimpliSafe’s basic packages are cost-effective when compared to other home security systems. However, their starter package comes with limited equipment. Therefore, even if it fits your budget, it may not fit your needs in terms of equipment to provide you with whole-home protection. Reading SimpliSafe security reviews will give you more insight into the products, features, support, and experience people have using a SimpliSafe home security system.
